ENVIRONMENTAL ADVOCATE

Background Information:
Concerned Citizens of Montauk (CCOM) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit environmental organization based in Montauk, New York. Since 1970 CCOM has been fighting to protect and preserve the unique environment and ecology of Montauk through education, advocacy, and grassroots citizen action. CCOM has three urgent priorities: cleaning up Montauk’s waters, protecting its beaches and coastline, and advocating for sustainable development. https://www.preservemontauk.org/

Recommended Qualifications:
A bachelor’s degree in a science-related field such as biology, chemistry, marine, coastal, or environmental science is required. A Master’s degree is not required but preferred. Candidate must have excellent computer skills, able to multitask and work autonomously, and have strong organizational, oral, and written communication skills, including technical writing and the ability to write reports, briefing notes, and other documents succinctly. Grant writing experience and working knowledge of federal, and state environmental regulations and industry standards is a plus.

Job Summary:
CCOM’s Environmental Advocate (EA) will help lead CCOM’s advocacy and communications on current major initiatives through webinars/live panel discussions, letter-writing campaigns, print collateral, email newsletters, online petitions, social media, and mainstream media.
The EA will also be responsible for leading a seasonal team of interns and volunteers in CCOM’s water quality testing program in partnership with the Gobler Laboratory at Stony Brook Southampton and bacterial testing in partnership with the Surfrider Foundation. The EA will also participate / lead in educational environmental programming and community efforts such as the Montauk School Science Fair and other special events. The EA reports directly to the Executive Director, is public-facing, and is responsible for engaging with government agencies, donors, and the board of directors.

Salary/Pay
The position is a full-time position in a hybrid workplace. Salary and title are contingent upon level of experience.
