Overview: The Manager or Director of Environmental Advocacy (MEA/DEA) is a full-time salaried position responsible for the development and implementation of CCOM’s environmental policy and programmatic initiatives. The role requires autonomy, excellent organizational and communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, as well as the flexibility to adapt to a changing work environment. The MEA/DEA must maintain regular in-office hours as well as evening hours where necessary and/or weekend meetings and events. The MEA/DEA reports directly to the Executive Director and is public-facing, and responsible for engaging with government agencies, CCOM’s Board of Directors, Staff, Donors, Members, Interns, and Volunteers to accomplish the organization’s environmental mission.

Main Focus: Advocate and advance environmental policy and programming related to CCOM’s 3 Goals: Water Quality, Coastal Resiliency, and Environmental Sustainability. MEA/DEA helps lead the organization in advancing and shaping CCOM’s coastal resiliency, water quality protection, and environmental sustainability objectives.

Responsibilities

1. Leads CCOM’s advocacy and communications on current major initiatives through webinars/live
panel discussions, letter-writing campaigns, print collateral, email communications, online
petitions, social media, and mainstream media. Some major initiatives include and are not limited to:
a. FIMP and Ditch sand replenishment
b. Benson Reserve
c. Hamlet Plan
d. Coastal resiliency education and implementation of the 5-point call-to-action
e. Septic and Wastewater
2. Leads community environmental education through outdoor kiosk events, organized beach cleanups, webinars, Montauk Science Fair, forums, and/or information sessions.
3. Creates/manages monthly e-newsletter and environmental content for website and social media, working with the communications committee.
4. Leads or supports CCOM’s Environmental Committee in coordination with the committee chairperson in shaping and executing the annual environmental goals and deliverables.
5. Serves as a member of the appointed Town CPF Water Quality Technical Advisory Committee, and other Town advisory committees and presents regular reports/synopses to the CCOM Board.
6. Leads, tracks, and analyzes CCOM’s water quality monitoring and pilot programs.
7. Oversees outside tracking and analysis of CCOM’s water quality monitoring and pilot programs.
8. Support CCOM as a liaison with municipal and environmental partnerships.
9. Works with staff and Development Committee to support fundraising communications, and grant writing and maintains relationships with key donors.
10. Support staff and Board in general office operations and administrative responsibilities as required/assigned.
11. Manages multiple priorities and deadlines while being flexible and quickly adjusting to changing schedules and deadlines.

Qualifications:
• Works well with others in a collaborative and positive environment.
• Ability to work outside for long hours in changing field conditions during all seasons.
• Exceptional attention to detail and strong observational skills.
• Strong oral and written communication skills, including technical writing and the ability to succinctly write reports, briefing notes, and other documents.
• Ability to effectively communicate technical information, both verbally and in written form.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
• Ability to work independently consistent with agreed-upon goals
• Bachelor’s degree in science from an accredited program, such as Environmental Science, Water Quality, Geology, Biology, or Soil Science
• Minimum 3 years of related professional experience
• Working knowledge of federal and state environmental regulations and industry standards is required.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to communicate both verbal and written technical information.
• Working knowledge of environmental site assessment methods.
• Must be proficient in the use of computer software (i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Valid driver’s license and vehicle required.

Salary/Pay
This is a full-time position. Salary and title are contingent upon level of experience.
